General Benedict Arnold is a former officer in the Continental Army.
Biography[]
In 1777, General George Washington ordered Major Benjamin Tallmadge to take a detachment of dragoon and militia forces north to rendezvous with General Arnold as a counter-feint against the British, while Continental forces shored up their southerly defenses on the Delaware.
However, after receiving word that his father and Caleb Brewster's uncle had been held prisoner in Setauket, Major Tallmadge decided to instead lead his men to rescue their family.

- "History knows him only as a traitor, but Arnold is seen by his contemporaries as Washington’s finest battlefield commander, the hero of the pivotal Battle of Saratoga. A soldier’s soldier, Arnold is famed for his bravery and grit, but off the battlefield he has a talent for making enemies, a trait exacerbated by his quick temper. Virile and rugged but repeatedly injured while serving his country, he is passed over for promotion in favor of less talented men, one of a series of slights that leaves him justifiably embittered. Denied battlefield glory while he recuperates from his wounds, Arnold takes refuge in his personal life, particularly his dogged romantic pursuit of Peggy Shippen."

In Season 3, Arnold conspired with André to turn West Point over to the British but was found out and forced to flee, reviled by the patriots for his betrayal and by his fellow Redcoat officers for getting André caught and hanged. Arnold goes on a rampage in Season 4, rounding up suspected spies along with innocent men and women. Eager to command a regiment of his own, he's finally given the funds to raise the Loyal American Legion to fight his nemesis General Washington. A brilliant military strategist, Arnold is keen to remind his former commander of his prowess on the battlefield."
