Biography[]
Worthington was a reverend who gave sermons to continental troops. In secret, he was a spy in the employment British forces. He took continental soldiers' confessions which granted him information to pass on to his employers. His identity was discovered by Robert Townsend, passed it on to Tallmadge and Washington via his father. Washington ordered that he be disposed of quietly.
Death[]
In 1778, Worthington was confronted by Benjamin Tallmadge, who then fatally shot him in the chest.
